Tom Cruise to star in “Van Helsing” reboot

by Dimitris Ioannou

Universal is about to give another try to the “Van Helsing” project after the 2004 box office big disappointment, starring Hugh Jackman in the leading role and Kate Beckinsale, but this time with the help of a “special agent”.

Tom Cruise is reportedly on board to produce the film and also star in it, while the “Transformers” screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are currently developing the script for the upcoming reboot.

Cruise is also in talks to return to two of his previous roles, first as agent Ethan Hunt in “Mission: Impossible 5” and second to the role that shot him to stardom as Maverick in “Top Gun 2”. The talented duo of the screenwriters have also agreed to give a new breath to “The Mummy”.

“The Town” scriptwriter to take “Top Gun 2”

by Dimitris Ioannou

“The Town” scriptwriter Peter Craig is going to write “Top Gun 2” as Paramount announced yesterday. Craig will fill in the position that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz of “X-Men: First Class” recently left empty. According to Variety he will be starting from the scratch as the previous writers who were hired back on October, never put a pen to paper.

It is yet unknown if Tom Cruise will return in his role as Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the sequel, but the actor may consider coming back to a movie which in 1986 launched him to superstardom. If so, this will be one of the few sequels he starred, except the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. Jerry Bruckheimer Films and David Ellison's Skydance Prods will produce the movie.
